INIS List of Journal Titles

26 Feb

The INIS List of Journal Titles (IAEA-INIS-11) is published annually and includes the titles of all journals containing articles submitted to INIS at the time of publication.

The new issue has now been published and contains 16 305 journal titles, including 870 which are Open Access, from 104 Member States and 13 international organizations.

A journal — or periodical — is a continuing publication issued in a succession of discrete parts, usually bearing numbering and/or chronological designations and intended to be continued indefinitely. It is generally published within a defined, fixed interval between issues and normally appears more than once per year. It includes a mixture of articles, letters, summaries, etc. Within this definition, annuals such as the Annual Review of Nuclear Science are included, but series titles such as the McGraw-Hill Series in Nuclear Engineering are not.

The current list of journals was last updated in February 2016 and is available on the INIS website..

New version of the INIS Repository Search (IRS)

26 Feb

The new version of the INIS Repository Search offers many improved features, enhancing the users’ experience. Separate fields have been implemented for Primary Subject, Journal and Report Number; a newly designed ‘Action Bar’ has been introduced alongside each record in the search results; search results can now be refined by a single value of the publication year; and author names in the search results are displayed as hyperlinks.

Other changes include permanent link URLs pointing to a changed record which automatically redirect to the new record; consistent information and hyperlinks for Search Results, My Selection, My Workspace, Export (PDF, HTML), andPrint; hyperlinks in a record that point to resources such as full text PDF, DOI, PURL, etc. now open in a new window, making the IRS application easily accessible; old records with no abstract now show a ‘no abstract available’ message; and DEI and DEC descriptor fields in the search results now contain help tooltips that provide more meaningful descriptions about their content.

INIS cooperation with the WorldWideScience.org (WWS)

28 Aug

WorldWideScience.org (WWS) is a global science gateway—accelerating scientific discovery and progress through a multilateral partnership to enable federated searching of national and international scientific databases and portals. The goal is to eliminate barriers to finding and sharing scientific and technical information across national boundaries. WWS, as a federated search portal, offers users the ability to simultaneously search, in real time, over 100 scientific and technical databases from more than 70 countries.

WorldWideScience.orgWWS implements Federated Search to provide its encompassing coverage of global science and research results. It allows the information patrons to search multiple data sources with a single query from the user interface. When a query is entered into the search box, it is sent to each individual database or portal searched by WWS. The individual data sources send back a list of results from the search query, which are then ranked in order of relevance. The information user can review this hit list and visit the host site of a particular hit for more detailed information. Multilingual translation capabilities are available for ten languages, making scholarly material more accessible to the users.
